Take a memory-activism walk on North Park Blocks, and immerse yourself in Oregon's silenced histories, as told by underrepresented and historically marginalized communities.
Vanport Mosaic, in collaboration with Design As Protest collective and a growing number of groups, individuals and cultural institutions, will activate a series of vacant storefront windows with history displays that celebrate communities' strength and inspire us to join in solidarity and action.
This museum without walls is instigated by Michelle Comer - facilitated by VanportMosaic/Story Midwife Laura Lo Forti and Community Weaver Chisao Hata - coordinated and designed by Design As Protest/Karim Hassanein, Sophia Austrin, Emily Wakdinger - and co-created with:
Maxville Heritage Center; Afro Village/Laquida Landford; This IS Kalapuyan Land/Five Oaks Museum; Oregon Black Pioneers/Racing to Change; Oregon Jewish Museum; Japanese American Museum/Nihonmachi; Blightxplotation/Cornerstones of Community; Portland Chinatown Museum; Portland Black Panthers; Oregon Remembrance Project; The Immigrant Story; It Did Happened Here; Fair Housing Council; Oregon Historical Society; Vanport: A Story Lived, a Story Told.
This project is the culmination of a year-long series of virtual memory-activism dialogues supported in part by the Oregon Heritage Commission.
