THE SPIRIT OF VANPORT

Join PSU Office of Diversity and Global Inclusion and Vanport Mosaic as we come together to honor and remember the lives affected by the flood that destroyed Vanport in one single day, on Memorial Day 1948.

Light refreshment, followed by remarks and a screening of selected short documentaries part of the Vanport Mosaic collection Lost City, Living Memories: Vanport Through The Voices of Its Residents.

This is also an opportunity to see Vanport Mosaic's permanent tribute to The Spirit of Vanport in the lobby. The installation features an interpretive mural by Alex Chiu and an exhibit component created by Bryan Potter Design. The project was directed and curated by Story Midwife Laura Lo Forti, with community weaver Chisao Hata and artist/Vanport descendant Shalanda Sims.
