Join us for a FREE screening of oral history documentaries, part of the Vanport Mosaic living archive. Through archival footage, historic photographs, and compelling first-person narratives, this collection of short films and audio narratives traces the story of Portland’s African American community from the 1940s to 1970s. It is a story of struggle, perseverance, and resilience that continues today.

Artist and Vanport descendant Velynn Brown will perform her poetry, and will facilitate a reflection on the beauty and challenges of story, home, community and belonging.

The Vanport Mosaic is a platform for memory activism. We amplify, honor, present, and preserve the silenced histories that surround us in order to understand our present and create a future where we all belong.
