Act II of Martha Bakes: a Biography of a Revolution and Insurrection that Never Happened

The Vanport Mosaic presents a staged table reading of Act II of Martha Bakes: a Biography of a Revolution and Insurrection that never happened, a new play written by Don Wilson Glenn, directed by Damaris Webb and featuring Victoria Alvarez-Chacon as Ona Marie Judge.

Act II is a solo play focusing on the little known history of Oney Marie Judge - Mrs. Washington's dresser, seamstress, confidante and our nation’s first (recorded) runaway slave. At curtain we find Oney returned to Mount Vernon after General Washington's death, to determine whether her family’s freedom is included in the will. In the process Ona shares her outlooks on the birth of the Nation, and her complex relationship with our first First Lady.
