  • Jim Pepper was a Kaw-Muscogee Native American who grew up in Portland and became a world renowned saxophone player and musician. He died in 1992 at age 50.

  •  The Jim Pepper Native Arts Festival is held in late September at Parkrose High School, in Jim Pepper's old neighborhood.

  • With an estimated 58,135 Native Americans representing more than 380 tribal affiliations, Portland is home to the ninth-largest Native American population in the country
